The first night of Madonna's Celebration Tour is finally here, and the 65-year-old pop icon is ready to hit the stage to perform her career's greatest hits. On Oct. 14, the tour kicked off in London, and it was epic.

Naturally, everyone is freaking out because, hello, Madonna is performing some of her most famous hits from the 1980s. Plus, the performer's recent health scare (she was hospitalized for a bacterial infection back in June), caused a three-month delay to the start of her tour.

While she seems to be feeling better now, the singer did comment on the infection at her tour's first stop over the weekend, saying that her kids helped her push forward. "I have got to be there for my children—I have to survive for them,” she said, per Billboard.

In fact, five of Madonna's six children—Mercy James, David Banda, Lourdes, Estere and Stella—joined her on stage in London, per Billboard.

Madonna has been around for a long time, but with all of this big news about her new tour, it’s only natural to wonder about her massive net worth (hey, you’re human). For the record, Madonna has grossed an estimated $1.2 billion on the road in her career, per Forbes.

So, here’s everything you need to know about how she made her millions over the years.

What is Madonna’s total net worth?

When you add up four decades of stardom and success, you get Madonna's jaw-dropping net worth of $580 million, according to Forbes.

And if I had to guess, I'd say her next tour will probably bump that number even higher. In fact, Billboard estimates that she'll rake in at least $100 million from her current tour. Everyone will have to wait and see!

She started making it big in the 80s.

While she started out singing with small bands, Madonna first hit the mainstream music scene in the 1980s with clubby songs like "Everybody" and “Burning Up,” which were featured on her self-titled debut album. But Madonna's fame really blew up in the mid-80s with her second album, Like a Virgin, which featured a bunch of hits, like “Like a Virgin,” "Material Girl," “Angel,” and "Dress You Up,” according to her website.

Of course, the hits just kept coming after that.

Madonna made a lot of money off of her songs.

In total, the pop star has churned out 14 studio albums and from the mid-1980s to 2015, she sold 335 million albums, per Guinness World Records. That made her the best-selling female recording artist... ever.

Her songs have also been sampled a ton by other artists, Guinness says, which puts even more cash in her pocket as the years go on.

Madonna has won a ton of awards.

Understandably, she has been nominated for a whopping 28 Grammy awards, and actually won seven of those nominations, according to Grammy.com.

Madonna won her first Grammy for Best Music Video, Long Form for her Madonna–Blonde Ambition World Tour, in 1991.

While the awards themselves don't tend to bring in cash, the recognition and fame definitely help with sponsorships, new artistic opportunities, and more.

She also made lots of money on tour.

Tours are where artists ~really~ make their coin, and Madonna is no exception. And if you look back at her past tour success, you can get a pretty good idea of how much cash her upcoming tour could rake in.

Currently, she has tour dates through April of 2024, including stops in the UK, Belgium, Mexico City, New York, and California.

In the past, this Material Girl has had a bunch of tours that netted more than $100 million, with her 2008 Sticky & Sweet tour being the highest grossing tour ever by a female artist (it made a cool $408 million), per Guinness.

And, back in 1985, the star raked in around $100,000 per night on her The Virgin Tour, per Billboard (tickets were only around $14.74 a piece, BTW). Then, in 1987, Madonna earned around $756,000 per show for her Who's That Girl Tour. While that’s not all money that goes directly into Madonna’s pocket, you better believe she got a solid chunk of change from the successful tours.

In 2007, Madonna also signed a 10-year deal with Live Nation regarding her ticket sales, per Metro UK. Apparently, the deal earned her around $100 million.

Madonna has been a director, actor, and children's books author, too.

Of course, there’s Madonna’s acting and directing career to consider, as well. Since the 1980s, she has starred in hits like A League of Their Own, Desperately Seeking Susan, and Evita, per IMDB, and she’s also directed things like Filth & Wisdom and W.E.

BTW, as it turns out, she's pretty good at the whole acting thing, and took home a Golden Globe for her Evita performance.

And her artistic pursuits didn't stop there. Madonna wrote several successful children's books, including Mr. Peabody's Apples, The English Roses, Yavok and the Seven Thieves, and Lotsa De Casha, per Publisher's Weekly.

Madonna had a clothing line.

Back in 2010, Madonna debuted her own fashion line, aptly called Material Girl. Gossip Girl star Taylor Momsen was the face of the brand, according to Billboard. It seemed fairly popular at the time, so she probably earned a decent income from the venture.

However, it seems the line is not currently releasing any new styles—and hasn't since around 2020.

What real estate does Madonna own?

The singer owns about $80 million worth of real estate, according to Celebrity Net Worth. That includes homes in London, Beverly Hills, New York City, and Lisbon, Architectural Digest says.

In April, she listed a 12,500 square foot home in California’s Hidden Hills for an impressive $26 million, per The Guardian. (She bought it from The Weeknd for $19.3 million.)

How much is Madonna's estate worth?

It's not totally clear, but it's likely Madonna's estate is equivalent to her net worth, which is around $580 million, per Forbes.
