FLEMINGTON-LURE

LARGE-SCALE OUTDOOR MOVING IMAGE PROJECTIONS, FLEMINGTON HOUSING ESTATE FORECOURT, FEDERATION SQUARE ATRIUM, MELBOURNE

With the learning gained from its previous regional work, Visionary Images sought to establish a connection between rural and
urban communities. The aim was to highlight the social connectivity of each community and create locally relevant artworks that had the potential to become components of the A-LURE project. Opportunities to work in Flemington (a Melbourne suburb) and Shepparton (a town in Victoria) resulted in the creation of projection artworks that explored the ideas and aspirations of each community.

An animation created in Flemington shows plasticine buildings held by hands (one black, one white) as parks, roads and cars appear followed by a bridge linking them. Portraits of citizens showcase the municipality’s diversity and the animated written greetings extend a welcome. The artwork concludes with a hand holding a
tiny plasticine Earth. The planet, fragile and protected, spins in its hand-held universe.
