At Visionary Images (VI) artists collaborate with young people to develop, produce and exhibit public art. We offer opportunities for the creative and personal development of young people from all walks of life, many of whom have experienced hardship. We aim to exhibit to the broadest possible audience to raise community awareness of the social issues that affect us all. VI exhibits artworks in highly visible, often unusual public spaces, taking art into the streets and every day life.

Recent News

 We’re excited to let you know that the Collingwood housing estate will be the next venue for workshops with children as part of the XSite program. The CoolWood project will see children collaborating with each other, artists and partners to develop ideas and artworks that reimagine everyday spaces.  We’ll be looking for ways to strengthen the connections between each other and the spaces we share.

The first stage of CoolWood, the skills and arts development phase, will see the children recycle & repurpose old neon signage to make paper paste-up/neon light collage installations. The CoolWood project continues our collaborations with children on the Richmond and Atherton Gardens housing estates.

The neon artwork “our home” is still shining bright on the side of a tower on the Atherton Gardens estate (corner of Brunswick and Gertrude Streets, Fitzroy), and we’re currently working with our partners The Department of Health and Human Services and Gandel Philanthropy to see the “Walking Child” artwork installed on the Richmond estate.

Children who live on and around the Richmond housing estate have created the concept design for the “Walking Child” neon. This ambitious animated neon artwork will remind people that the estate is a place where children live, grow and thrive. Given the obesity crisis in Australia the children also want to highlight the importance of movement and exercise in every-day life. It is sure to become an iconic landmark on Melbourne’s skyline sharing the glow with the “Skipping Girl”.
