City Airlines, the latest addition to the Lufthansa Group, gears up to inaugurate its flight operations in the upcoming summer of 2024. Having acquired its Air Operator Certificate (AOC) from the German Federal Aviation Authority last June, the carrier is preparing to take off from the key hubs of Munich and Frankfurt, fortifying its role as a feeder for the Lufthansa network.
To prepare for its maiden voyage, City Airlines has announced the commencement of the recruitment drive for both cockpit and cabin crew members, slated to begin in November 2023. In order to position the airline for the long term, English-speaking pilots are also being considered in the recruitment process for cockpit roles. Applicants with previous experience in the field will be prioritized during the selection process. Employees within the Lufthansa Group who express interest in transitioning to City Airlines can negotiate switch arrangements, an opportunity particularly extended to Lufthansa CityLine staff.
With City Airlines, we want to create prospects for the coming decades and secure sustainable jobs in Germany. This is the only way for us to grow and sustainably strengthen the hubs in Munich and Frankfurt.
Jens Fehlinger, Managing Director of City Airlines
Deliberations with relevant stakeholders have already commenced to establish terms conducive to fostering competitive and secure job prospects.
In terms of passenger experience, travelers can expect a seamless and uniform Lufthansa service during their journey with City Airlines. The initial phase of operations will witness the deployment of Airbus A319 aircraft, while the Lufthansa Group is actively evaluating the feasibility of incorporating Airbus A220 or Embraer aircraft into its fleet, thereby broadening the spectrum of offerings for future routes.
The comprehensive expansion of the short-haul network between Munich and Frankfurt is set to fortify City Airlines’ position in the market and also contribute significantly to the growth of the long-haul segment.
