The voting for the inaugural Transfermarkt DStv Premiership Player of the Season Award kicked off a historical affair between the Premier Soccer League (PSL) and Transfermarkt during the 2022/23 season.

As noted by Transfermarkt, more than 1.5 million users worldwide partook in the vote, the Namibian target-man Peter Shalulile has been named as the inaugural winner of the feat with a unanimous 27.45 percent of the votes been handed to him by South African football fans. The coveted podium places alongside Shalulile were snapped up by fellow Mamelodi Sundowns teammate Marcelo Allende – who only joined the club in July 2022, and Cape Town City’s Khanyisa Mayo who shared the DStv Premiership’s Goalscoring accolade with Peter Shalulile in the 2022/23 season.
