CDC Vimont Visit: May 4th
Morning session: 11-12 PM
Afternoon session: 1:30-2:30 PM

TLE is excited to announce visiting illustrator Sophie Casson will be joining us at CDC Vimont IN PERSON! This is our first #CCBW visit since the start of the pandemic that we will be holding in person!

I’m an illustrator too! How does the artist “interpret” the text to make the illustrations?

Sophie will present to participants the process of creating the images for the picture book The Prisoner and the Writer. Retracing the Dreyfus Affair in which a Jewish army man is framed and thrown in prison, this story is about racism and the courage to tell the truth. The goal of the workshop is to show how the illustrator can use metaphors and other elements to create added meaning to the story. Sophie will demonstrate how to make a monotype and the students will make their own using oil pastels.

…a picture book for older kids that place Dreyfus and Zola side by side.
