Police charge Lincoln man, 56, with first-degree murder

NRPS says case involves intimate partner violence

A 56-year-old Lincoln man has been charged with first-degree murder after Niagara Regional Police responded this afternoon to a residential address on Victoria Avenue between Greenlane and John Street for a case involving intimate partner violence, a news release said.

Detectives assigned to the 8 District Criminal Investigative Unit began the investigation with support from detectives assigned to the Homicide Unit and Forensic Services Unit. Members of the Emergency Task Unit, Canine Unit, and Marine Unit were also sent to the property.

At approximately 12:20 p.m. the body of an adult woman was found, the release said.

The NRPS said in the release it will not be releasing the name of the accused in an effort to protect the identity of the victim and her surviving family.

The NRPS Homicide Unit has taken control of the investigation.  Area residents can expect a continued police presence in the area. There is no on-going threat to public safety, the release said.
