Beckham documentary scores Netflix its biggest audience of the year in the UK

The new Beckham documentary has attracted Netflix’s biggest audience of the year in the UK.

The four-part show where David and Victoria Beckham open up about their lives, had 3.8m viewers in the week ending October 8.

This made it the streaming giant’s most watched in Britain since Harry & Meghan in December 2022, which had nearly 4.5m viewers.

Beckham also beat figures for other Netflix favourites including the new season of Sex Education, released last month.

The figures come as Netflix has looked at adding more older shows. Because of the actor strikes hitting Hollywood, rivals have done licensing deals with Netflix to stream their shows.

This year Warner Bros Discovery’s HBO network has licensed old hits such as Six Feet Under and Band of Brothers. NBC Universal has also reached a deal with Netflix to stream legal drama Suits.

Netflix said it was confident its new advertising-supported, cheaper option will be a multibillion-dollar revenue stream. It costs £4.99 a month in the UK.
