Hey, Swifties, I have just the thing for you to celebrate fall and all things Taylor Swift. Taylor's chai cookie recipe was recently shared on TikTok by user @taylor4life32. This recipe is a buttery sugar cookie originally from Joy the Baker. Taylor’s twist, however, is the bag of chai leaves added in for a cozy warming flavor. Funnily enough, this recipe was from Taylor Swift’s Tumblr back in 2016. “This is a recipe for basic insanely good sugar cookies. I added the chai element to the recipe because I thought it would infuse cozy holiday vibez into the cookie and it really did,” wrote Taylor in her blog post. And, if you know anything about Taylor, it’s that she celebrates fall by making a batch.

After making them myself, I can guarantee that these will be an autumnal classic. They have a lovely vanilla and warming-spice flavor that makes them perfect for fall, and when baked right, the texture is soft and crispy. If you want, you can just use salted butter and leave out the salt. The result will be the same. I frosted mine with vanilla frosting and topped them off with a sprinkle of cinnamon and sugar.

Enjoy!

  • Step 1

Beat together the butter and vegetable oil. Add in the sugar, powdered sugar, egg, and vanilla.

  • Step 2

Stir in the flour, baking soda, salt, and tea (yep, just open the bag and dump in the leaves).

  • Step 3

Chill the dough for an hour in the fridge. When ready to bake, preheat the oven to 350° F, and grease your cookie sheet.

  • Step 4

Roll the cookie dough into 1-inch balls and place on a baking sheet. Press them down almost flat with the back of a spoon, and sprinkle with sugar. Cook for 9 to 14 minutes, depending on size in the oven, and cool completely before drizzling with icing.
