A suspect attacked a San Francisco woman who was holding her child Monday morning in Hayes Valley, police said.
The 39-year-old woman was assaulted at Octavia and Hickory streets by a man who struck her and the child with an object, police said. One of them was treated at the scene for non-life-threatening injuries.
Police said they found probable cause to arrest a 52-year-old man in connection with the assault. Jail records show the suspect was booked in jail at 10:30 a.m. Monday on charges of assault with a deadly weapon and child endangerment.
The woman appears to have posted on the social media platform Nextdoor, claiming her assailant was a homeless man who attacked her and her 2-year-old child near her home. Police would not confirm that the suspect was unhoused.

The Standard's attempts to contact the victim were unsuccessful.
There were 46 reports of aggravated assault in Hayes Valley in the 12 months before Oct. 21, compared with 52 during the same period ending in October 2022, according to police data analyzed by The Standard. There were 49 reports of aggravated assault in the same period ending in 2019.
Citywide, the number of aggravated assault reports has increased slightly since pre-pandemic 2019, from 2,465 to 2,493 incidents per 10,000 residents.
