Angel Delgadillo chosen as an Arizona Historymaker for 2023

Angel Delgadillo, the Seligman, Arizona, barber who shepherded the creation of the Historic Route 66 Association of Arizona in 1987 and the designation of that state’s Route 66 as a historic highway, will be honored Saturday as an Arizona Historymaker.

The Arizona Historymakers Turquoise & Treasures Celebration will be held from 3 to 7 p.m., hosted by the Historical League at the Arizona Heritage Center at Papago Park in Tempe.

The History League defines Arizona Historymakers as such:

Historymakers are men and women who have distinguished themselves with noted achievements in such diverse areas as the arts, athletics, communications, community service, education and entertainment, and who have maintained their ties to Arizona.

The league has honored Arizona Historymakers since 1992.

Last year, Delgadillo was inducted into the Arizona Tourism Hall of Fame. A few months ago, he received his own exhibit at the Kingman Visitor Center in Kingman, Arizona.

Delgadillo is 96 years old and retired from barbering last year. He still greets tourists regularly at his barbershop-turned-giftshop on Route 66 in Seligman. He also has been staying busy making custom birdhouses as a fundraiser for the Seligman Welcome Arches project.
