A Message from the Council of Bishops

As we rapidly approach the convening of our 2022 Jurisdictional and Central Conferences, we in the Council of Bishops join together in expressing to you that we are praying for each of you, and especially the candidates who have offered themselves to be considered as potential episcopal leaders for this next season of our life together.

We have been offering up this specific prayer, taken from This Day: A Wesleyan Way of Prayer by Laurence Hull Stookey:

You have called us, O God, to do the work of your church as careful and efficient stewards.
To this end we bind together our congregations and govern them through the work of Conferences in which we consult and consider together pressing matters before the church.
Give wisdom and vision to those who serve us as delegates to our Jurisdictional and Central Conferences.
Let not the weariness of their duties distract them nor the emotion of the issues they face prejudice them in the decision they must make.

Enable them to seek first your kingdom and its righteousness.
Amen.

In addition, several of our bishops have come together to offer their thoughts on the future of our church and the gifts & graces needed for anyone who takes on the important responsibilities of the office of bishop in this critical season of our life.

We invite you to reflect upon these thoughts as you deeply listen to the callings and gifts expressed in those you will be interviewing and ultimately electing.

May God’s rich blessing of discernment fall upon each of you as you undertake this important responsibility!
