A crash on a busy West London road has blocked the road and caused long delays this morning (Thursday, October 19). A City of London police officer on a motorbike was involved in a crash with a car this morning, while attending to a broken down vehicle on the busy road.

The police officer was rushed to hospital, the Metropolitan Police have said. The crash happened between the A501 Marylebone Flyover (Paddington) and the A3220 West Cross Route (Northern Roundabout, White City). All traffic was stopped at 8.30 and has been held for an hour.

According to INRIX, a few vehicles have begun to come through as of 9.40am.

The officer's injuries were not described as life-threatening or changing.

The officer was helping with a broken down vehicle when they were hit by a car.

Traffic cleared on A40

Traffic has cleared on the A40 Westway westbound following a crash this morning involving a City of London police officer.

The officer was taken to hospital with minor injuries.

Traffic was held on the road for an hour while emergency services dealt with the collision.

City of London police statement

Chief Inspector Jesse Wynne, Force Incident Manager at the City of London Police, said: “While attending to a broken-down vehicle on the A40 westbound, a City of London Police traffic officer was hit by a car at around 8:30am on Thursday, 19 October.

"The officer was taken to hospital by London Ambulance Service with minor injuries. The Metropolitan Police Service are investigating the road traffic collision.”

Police officer rushed to hospital after crash

A City of London police officer riding a motorcycle was involved in a crash with a car on the A40 Westway near All Saints Road, the police have said.

It was reported the City officer had stopped to assist a broken down vehicle when the collision occurred.

The officer was rushed to hospital but his injuries were not described as life threatening or changing, the Met Police have said.

The road is cleared and traffic easing after accident cleared on A40 Westway out of town from A501 Marylebone Flyover (Paddington) to A3220 West Cross Route (Northern Roundabout, White City). Traffic was stopped for an hour until 9.30am.

A40 blocked Westbound

According to TfL Jam Cams, the A40 Westway (Westbound) is blocked at the junction of Portobello Road due to a collision.

They say: "Active : Traffic is held at the incident with queues back to the junction with Edgware Road. Expect long delays."
