An energy company's new winter scheme is set to benefit thousands of customers. E.on Next's new 'Winter Affordability Support Scheme', launched on Sunday, October 1, and includes discounts and free insulation.

The supplier has launched the scheme for some of its existing customers on low incomes or with medical needs and will offer up to 50 per cent off. The discount will be available across all payment methods (including direct debit, prepayment and payment on receipt of bills), reports Money-Saving Expert.

Am I eligible for E.on Next's energy bill discount?

To be eligible for the scheme, you need to:

Meet all these requirements

  • Have been an existing E.on Next customer before September 25, 2023
  • Have a smart meter (or agree to have one installed)
  • Pay for your energy by fixed monthly direct debit (unless you're on a prepayment meter)

And meet at least one of these:

  • Have an annual household income of less than £19,000 and be eligible for the Warm Home Discount or have been previously eligible for the so-called 'broader group' Warm Home Discount in England and Wales
  • Have an annual household income of under £19,000 and less money coming in than what you need for key living costs
  • Have an annual household income of under £31,000 and medical dependency needs. This includes: nebuliser or apnoea monitor, heart-lung or lung ventilator, dialysis, feeding pump or automated medication, oxygen concentrator, MDE electric showering.

If you meet the above criteria and don't have any energy debt on your account, you'll get 25 per cent off E.on's standard tariff rate until March 2024. 

If you do have energy debt and meet the criteria you'll get 50 per cent E.on's standard tariff rate until March 2024.

If you keep up with your monthly payments until the end of the scheme any outstanding debt you have by March will be wiped. Once you've joined the scheme the discount will be applied to your bill automatically each month and E.on Next will update the price on your meter to the discounted rate.

According to Money Saving Expert E.on Next started contacting customers who could be eligible via email, letter, phone and text message from September 25, 2023. The company warn people to be careful of scam messages offering this deal.
