MINI is following BMW’s lead and will be offering larger, more aggressive JCW brakes on most MINI models starting next year. What are the differences and which models will get the option? We have exclusive information from sources that answers these questions and gives us insight into what other JCW options we’ll see across the range.

Over the last several years BMW M has seen huge successes from offering various M derived options in non-M cars. That model will be mirrored by MINI and their re-branded performance arm JCW starting with the 4th generation MINI family. We’ll see things like JCW body-kits, seats, steering wheel and brakes offered as factory options on the EV J01 MINI Cooper EV, EV/ICE U25 Countryman and the ICE F66 MINI Cooper family.

JCW Brakes
The current generation after sales version of the JCW brakes. We expect this new generation to be a similar four piston set-up in the front.

JCW Brakes – Technical Specs

The current JCW after sales brake kit for the F56 is made up of a 4-piston fixed caliper in chili red with John Cooper Works branding and an internally ventilated, drilled brake disk up front (335x30mm). In the back (where there’s less weight to worry about) MINI has a single piston floating caliper in chili red and a disk that’s 259x10mm. The size will increase and likely be very similar to the massive brakes offered on the current JCW Countryman and Clubman. Rear sizing might also increase slightly on the EV models as the weight distribution will likely be closer to 50/50.

Perhaps just as importantly they will feature more aggressive pads which help the car have a more firm bite and less fade on track. On the current range of JCW products, the brakes create a much more controlled experience on the track or in spirited driving. In fact the brakes on the current Clubman and Countryman (and GP) are substantially larger than stock and drastically change the experience in even day to day driving.

The option will be internally known as 3C1 and will require JCW wheels to accommodate the larger calipers.

F66 MINI Cooper – JCW Wheels, Seats and Other Options

While we expect these options on the J01 MINI Cooper EV and the U25 Countryman, we have more details on the ICE powered F66 MINI family. The JCW brakes will also be offered next to JCW seats (option 4FN) JCW trim (7KQ) and a JCW steering wheel (2XK). JCW will also offer several wheels and tire package that will be branded JCW as well.

Here’s the full list of all JCW options we should see at launch:

Exclusive: 2025 MINI Cooper and Countryman Production & Release Dates

There will still be a lot to choose from across the internal combustion range from MINI – as long as you like 2.0 liter engines. Most models will receive a notable power increase with the exception of the Euro Countryman JCW and the F66 JCW. Also note that the US will not be getting the Countryman C and will only receive the S and JCW.
