Vital Statistics(Birth Cert, Death Cert, & Marriage Lic.)

The Office of Vital Statistics registers vital events, issues marriage licenses, provides certified copies and maintains the following vital records:

  • Birth, marriage and death records
  • Domestic partnerships, Civil Union records

Registrars hours are Monday-Friday (except Holidays) between 8:30 a.m. - noon and from 1-4 p.m. Due to the application volume and lengthy process please make an appointment: 973-326-7390 or email Registrar Karen Swetz

Birth Certificates

  • Birth certificates are filed with the Registrar of Vital Statistics in the town where the birth occurred.
  • Certified copies are $25 for the first copy and $5 per each additional copy, effective July, 2015
  • One photo ID or two other forms of ID must be presented upon request.
  • To request certified copies by mail, please contact the Department of Health by calling 973-326-7390.
  • For people who were born at Morristown Memorial Hospital, you would contact the Registrar of Vital Statistics in Morristown, please visit Town of Morristown's Vital Statistic's page for more information. 

Death Certificates

Marriage Licenses

  • Due to the application volume and lengthy process please make an appointment: 973-326-7390 or email Registrar Karen Swetz
  • Apply for a Marriage license in the town where either partner lives and the Marriage license must be filed with the Registrar of Vital Statistics in the town where the marriage occurred. View detailed information about marriage licenses and civil unions.
  • Certified copies are $25 for the first copy and $5 per each additional copy, effective July, 2015
  • One photo ID or two other forms of ID must be presented upon request.
  • To request certified copies by mail, please mail the appropriate fee (check made payable to "Township of Morris"), along with the name of either applicants; date of marriage; a copy of photo ID for applicants; and the address to which the copy should be mailed. Certified copies are mailed the day your request is received.
