Max joined Inhouse Consulting about a year ago. In this interview he speaks about his projects and what he values most in his job.

Which projects are you working on?

I have a preference for engaging in projects that center around digitalization and transformation. One illustrative experience includes our Data Office, where I played a pivotal role in shaping the operational framework and defining forthcoming data-related positions.

How do you spend your time outside of work?

In my spare time, I take martial arts training twice a week. I discovered kickboxing over a year ago and it is now an integral part of my weekly routine. Apart from that, I try something new every year. In 2023, I learned to juggle and went to a surf camp for the first time.

What do you like most about your job?

What I enjoy most about my job is the freedom to select projects that align with my interests, engage in collaborative problem-solving within a supportive team environment, and have the privilege of learning from intelligent individuals with varied experiences, backgrounds, and areas of expertise.

What did you do before you joined Inhouse Consulting?

I reinvented my career when making the decision to enter the consulting world in the area of transaction and M&A, following the completion of my PhD in polymer chemistry.

What is your role in your projects?

In addition to being accountable for the end-to-end activities of the project, my main role is twofold:
Firstly, empower the IC team to successfully achieve the project objectives. Secondly, act as the single point of contact for clients and offer guidance to make swift decisions.

Why did you choose the global graduate program?

The Global Graduate Program (GGP) offers a unique opportunity to high potential individuals with dual interest in both natural science and business. As an individual with prior work experience, I really enjoyed that the program empowered me at Day 1 to contribute and deliver impact immediately in projects. 

What is your background?

Prior to joining Inhouse Consulting, I completed a PhD in Quantitative Biomedical Sciences (an interdisciplinary program in epidemiology, biostatistics, and bioinformatics) at Dartmouth. 

Which projects are you working on?

During the past seven months with IC, I have had the chance to work on captivating projects encompassing various subjects, including CapEx Management, eCommerce Strategy, Pricing, Supply Chain Management, and Growth Strategy. 

How do you spend your time outside of work?

I lead a very active lifestyle, so after work I can often be found on my bike, in the climbing gym or at a CrossFit course. I am also a very social person; the GGP was the perfect opportunity to quickly settle into a new place and develop a great set of new friends.

What is your role in your projects?

The projects I work on are diverse, with each having specific tasks and work packages. For these reasons my work is never boring or repetitive! To maximize my learnings, I collaborate closely with the project lead and team, and take ownership of workstreams that offer the most development opportunities. 

What did you like most about Inhouse Consulting?

Mostly I valued the challenging spirit of the program, where working alongside consultants with high expectations became a driving force for skill development and adaptability across various roles. 

How was your transition process? 

The transition process from our Inhouse Consulting was smooth, thanks to the valuable relationships I had built. These connections helped me secure a newly created position within the organization, fostering my continued growth.

How did Inhouse Consulting help you develop your career?

Commencing my career at Inhouse Consulting significantly honed my capacity to swiftly adapt to a diverse range of topics, individuals, and work settings. Transitioning from academia to consulting, I learned that it is perfectly acceptable not to be the subject matter expert when you can strategically pose targeted questions. This experience has been instrumental in my professional growth.
