1- Claire Foy was paid less than Matt Smith

Claire Foy played the character of Queen Elizabeth II in the series. However, the surprising thing is that the British actress was paid less than Matt Smith, who portrayed the queen's husband Prince Philip.

That was reportedly due to the greater popularity of Smith when the TV show began as he had previously performed roles as the eleventh incarnation of the Doctor in the Doctor Who series. Foy has greatly enhanced her reputation since she started filming for the Netflix series, with the British actress' performances winning her Golden Globe, Emmy, and Screen Actors Guild Awards.

Left Bank Pictures, the show's production company, later gave a public apology to the actors for the pay disparity.

The first season of Game of Thrones cost around £47 million, which amounts to roughly £5 million for each episode.

However, the expense of creating The Crown's first season was reportedly £97.4 million, with roughly £10 million per episode. This is not very surprising considering the lavish production and stellar cast of the show.
