Roddy Piper and Vince McMahon

by Greg Tingle

The late, great, "Rowdy" Roddy Piper and living legend, Jesse "The Body" Ventura were a couple of the first wrestlers to turn their hand to Hollywood, but there are far from the last to put their creative acting skills to the test on a platform even greater that Vince McMahon's giant wrestling canvas says Media Man agency...

John Cena, the most famous of the current wrestler turn movie star, has further infiltrated Hollywood and now it appears at least two more WWE Superstars are following in his footsteps.

Becky Lynch, who will be appearing in “Billions” on Showtime on 5/3 at 9 pm eastern, is getting television and movie offers. Hollywood directors are certainly interested in casting her in big movie projects.

World renown wrestling and MMA journalist and commentator, Dave Meltzer noted in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that a major national women’s magazine is preparing for a major feature on Lynch and others in the entertainment world are interested in her because of how she connects with the live audience.

Wrestling, media and branding mastermind, Paul Heyman has suggested things for her to tweet and her Twitter strategy appears to be working a charm. Agencies including the Media Man Group have bought into her antics. Former UFC champion Ronda Rousey has also been whipping up a social media frenzy with her social media scribes of late.

Another grappler who is getting offers is Roman Reigns. He will be in David Spade’s move entitled “The Wrong Missy” on streaming giant Netflix. The movie is set to premiere on 5/13 and Reigns has interest from Hollywood producers for other upcoming projects.

The general consensus is that doors were opened for him when he did the Hobbs and Shaw movie, which cousin Dwyane "The Rock" Johnson helped bring about.

The vibe on Reigns is that he has the look of a star who will come off well on television shows. That IT factor helps drawn big audiences, followers across the globe, and hence the money machine that usually follows.

Should Reigns and Lynch choose to take on more roles then it could be the start of them taking on a limited schedule with WWE, similar to what John Cena did when he started to get movie offers.

With the current worldwide situation, economic and otherwise, any well paid gig is a good gig, and Reigns and Lynch are smartly exploring other options, regardless of what WWE king pin Vince McMahon really thinks of the situation, politics, exclusivity on stars or otherwise.

It's showbiz and WWE grapplers are naturals in rolling with the punches. These wrestlers know how to get attention, sell tickets, and work the media and marketing machine. Little wonder Hollywood is calling. Answer that call.
