History
and meaning of automotive emblems
Each
car brand has its own logo, behind which a whole story
can be hidden. In addition, each logo has its own
meaning. Sometimes these stories are fictional and
have nothing to do with the real origin of the emblem.
Consider reliable information about the meaning of
the logos of the most common car brands.
1.
Ferrari. The logo
of this legendary company represents a prancing horse.
His story was told by Enzo Ferrari only once. According
to him, he copied this horse from the fuselage of
Count Francesco Baracca. Later, his mother asked the
automaker to put her son's horse on his cars. At the
same time, she assured Ferrari that she would bring
him good luck. Today the Ferrari logo comes in a variety
of designs. This is the case when the logo matches
the quality, zeal, and speed of the cars being produced.
2.
BMW. The Bavarian flag was taken as the basis
for the logo of this company, since the history of
this car originates from this very area. Although
the company originally produced aircraft, it has been
making cars since 1929. BMW's design was inspired
by the aircraft's rotating propeller.
3.
Alfa Romeo. The emblem of this legendary car originated
in 1910. The artist Romano Cattaneo combined the coat
of arms of Milan, as well as the emblem of one noble
family (House of Visconti). She looks like a snake
swallowing a person. If the first part is a symbol
of the homeland of the car, then the second part symbolized
uncompromising and cruelty in the competition.
4.
Toyota. The founder of this company launched a
competition in which everyone could take part. Participants
were required to come up with a car brand badge. As
a result, there were more than 20,000 applications.
The winner of this competition submitted a variant
with katana letters. It was attractive not only from
an aesthetic point of view. Since this logo uses 8
strokes, it has become a symbol of success and prosperity.
Interestingly, this number is considered lucky in
Japan.
5.
Mercedes-Benz. The emblem of this car consists
of a three-pointed star. It symbolizes the superiority
of this brand in the air, on land and in the water.
This is not surprising, since the company was engaged
not only in the production of cars, but also engines
for ships and aviation. The name of this company is
dedicated to the daughter of one of the founders of
the concern.
6.
Infiniti. The name of this brand is translated
as infinity or infinity. The logo matches the meaning
exactly, as it represents the road leading to infinity.
This emblem symbolizes the endless path to improvement
in everything. Since Infiniti is a subsidiary of Nissan,
more expensive and high-class cars are nevertheless
produced under this brand. As far as Nissan vehicles
are concerned, manufacturers have seen the benefits
of producing economy class vehicles.
7.
Audi. The logo of this company consists of four
interconnected rings. Representing one chain, these
rings symbolize the unbreakable unity of the four
companies - the founding companies Audi, DKW, Horch
and Wanderer. The name was taken in honor of the founder
of the auto concern August Horch. It is interesting
that in Latin the surname "Horch" is translated
as "Audi".
8.
Volvo. The meaning of this company's logo sounds
menacing. It symbolizes courage, iron and blacksmithing.
Therefore, the logo is secured with a metal bar. This
symbol was taken from ancient Celtic mythology, and
is translated "volvo": "I spin"
or "I roll."
9.
Volkswagen. The emblem of this car company consists
of two letters - V and W. In German, this translates
as "people's car". The history of this concern
dates back to 1933. Then Adolf Hitler demanded to
create a car accessible to citizens, which would cost
no more than 1,000 marks. That is why they began to
call it folk.
10.
Subaru. This logo features a cluster of stars
that sounds like "Subaru" in Japanese. However,
the arrangement of the stars on the logo does not
correspond to the actual arrangement in the constellation.
The literal translation of this brand is "six
stars". It is also a fitting symbol, since the
group was originally formed by six companies. Although
at the beginning of its journey the company produced
airplanes, but thanks to the love of the head of Kenji
kita for cars, they also began to be produced from
1954.
As
you can see, car
logos have their own unique stories that connect
the past and the present. Since many logos have roots
from the beginning of the last century, they all have
sufficient intrigue and symbolism. This explains the
fact that most of the logos of famous car brands have
not changed for many decades.
