Experience

Sascha Brodsky is a writer for Lifewire who focuses on consumer technologies and privacy issues for a broad range of outlets. He’s been writing online for the past ten years; before that, Sascha was a newspaper and magazine reporter and editor.

Sascha's relevant experience includes:

  • Feature stories for the Atlantic
  • Former Director of Communications for the Simons Foundation
  • Wrote for Reuters, the Irish Times and other media
  • Communications consultant for a range of institutions including New York University and the Michael J. Fox Foundation

Sascha has been a journalist since the early 1990s and has enjoyed finding technology to help him in his work. He started out sending stories via dial-up modem while working on the Navajo reservation in New Mexico. He spent several years as a reporter for United Press International filing stories on a terminal. Nowadays, he enjoys high-speed WIFI and laptops.

Sascha's photojournalism work has been published in The Los Angeles Times, HuffPost, and many other outlets. He is a graduate of the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism's advanced multimedia storytelling program. He currently shoots mainly on the iPhone 12 Pro Max but also has experience with many DSLR cameras and is a Canon fan.

My Gear

I use a 2016 MacBook Pro 15-inch (running macOS Catalina) and an iPad Pro 10.5-inch for my daily work, shuffling between Google Docs, Trello, and Slack, along with various other Mac and iOS apps. I use an iPhone Xs Max as my daily smartphone and an Apple Watch Series 3. I also have an older Apple PowerBook for both nostalgia and distraction-free writing. I love using VR gear like my Oculus Quest 2 to explore the tech while I play games, watch movies, and even work in VR environments.

Education

Sascha received a bachelor’s degree in English from Macalester College in Saint Paul, Minnesota, and his Master of Science at the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism in New York City. He also holds a Master’s degree in international affairs from Columbia’s School of International and Public Affairs.
