Transfer Your eSim More Easily to Your New Pixel 8 With Google's Official Tool

eSim is probably here to stay

Moving eSim from your old phone to a new one can be tricky, so this new tool on Pixel phones (so far) should make the process much easier for all of us.

Transferring your eSim to a new phone just got easier, if you have Pixel 8, that is.

As noted by Android journalist Mishaal Rahman on Twitter, moving eSim to the new Pixel 8 from your older Pixel device works much better and with what appears to be an official Google software tool to do it with.

Apple led the way to a wider adoption of eSim with the iPhone 14, and now more and more phones use the tech. While no one has ditched the physical SIM slot just yet, its days are likely numbered, as eSim can be more convenient for both users and carriers. Transferring the info from phone to phone, however, needs to be less difficult, and now Google's MWC 2023 promise has come true.

Further, Rahman says that the new Google tool allows you to convert your physical SIM card to an eSim, though he also notes that this will not work on every phone or with every carrier.

As Android Police's Rajesh Pandey notes, this isn't the first Android phone to create an eSim migration tool, as Samsung has one of its own, and is working on adding more support for the tech and transfer process across various carriers.

Whether Google's new tool works with non-Pixel phones remains to be seen, but eSim just got a shot in the arm toward a more ubiquitous future.
