Davey Tree donates 1,861 trees

The Davey Tree Expert Co., No. 2 on the 2023 LM150 list, donated 1,861 trees as of Oct. 2023 through partnerships with the Cleveland Cavaliers, Cleveland Guardians and the Pittsburgh Penguins to help reestablish tree canopies in Northeast Ohio and Pittsburgh.

During the 2021-22 Cleveland Cavaliers season, Davey donated 953 trees as part of the Trees for Threes program for every home and away three-pointer made. Davey donated the trees to various nonprofit and community organizations and helped plant the trees across Northeast Ohio.

During the 2022 Cleveland Guardians season, Davey donated 132 trees for the Swing for the Trees program for every home run hit. During the 2023 season, Davey promised 148 trees, with planting events planned for spring 2024. The Guardians hit 124 home runs during the season, and Davey said it will add 24 trees to the final number of donated trees for the number of home runs José Ramírez contributed.

Davey’s partnership with the Pittsburgh Penguins, Score for the Trees, planted a tree in the Pittsburgh area for every home goal scored. During the 2022-23 season, Davey added 142 trees to the Pittsburgh community.

Metalcraft acquires Bluebird Turf Products

WiscNews reported Metalcraft of Mayville, manufacturer of Scag, purchased Bluebird Turf Products of Auburn Hills, Mich. The company’s 21 employees will remain with the company.

Winterberry Gardens’ garden center shifts to appointment-based for 2024

The Meriden Record-Journal reports Winterberry Gardens, No. 112 on the 2023 LM150 list, said its garden center will shift to appointment only for its maintenance, landscape construction and design and irrigation services.

“We wanted to focus more on the areas that have been growing over the last five years,” Bryan Stolz, CEO, told the Record Journal. “It allows us to take the really talented people who are running the garden center and shift them over to other areas of the business.”

Stoltz said the 10 employees dedicated to the garden center will remain at the garden center or given offers to move to another department in the company

Everglades Equipment Group to offer Steel Green spreader-sprayers

Everglades Equipment Group said it entered into a new partnership with Steel Green Manufacturing. With this new partnership, Everglades Equipment Group will offer its customers Steel Green’s stand-on spreader-sprayers.

“As a dealership, when you simplify things for your customers by offering another high-quality product they rely on, it’s really a win/win for everyone,” said Josh Coffman, commercial and retail sales manager with Everglades Equipment Group. “The fact that the Steel Green team matches our commitment to customer service and integrity is simply icing on the cake. We are really excited to see where this takes our commercial business.”

Coxreels marks 100 years

Coxreels said it will celebrate its 100th anniversary this year. The company was founded in 1923 as Cox Air Gauge in the automotive industry and now offers products in 24 different industries and is a third-generation family-owned and operated business.

Electric Sheep wins tech award

Electric Sheep said it won a 2023 AI Tech Award in the industry vertical applications category. The AI TechAwards celebrates technical innovation, adoption and reception in the AI, machine learning and data science industries.

“Electric Sheep is a great example of the newest AI and machine learning technologies now allowing developers and engineers and professionals to build upon the burgeoning AI/ML industry. Today’s digital economy increasingly runs on systems needing increased data and intelligence. Electric Sheep’s win here at the 2023 AI TechAwards is evidence of their leading role in the growth of the global AI ecosystem,” said Jonathan Pasky, executive producer and co-founder of DevNetwork, producer of the AI DevWorld conference and the 2023 AI TechAwards.

Electric Sheep will be presented with the AI TechAward during AI DevWorld 2023 in Santa Clara, Calif.

FieldPulse announces $21 million Series B funding

FieldPulse said $21 million Series B funding round led by Fulcrum Equity Partners. The round also saw continued participation from current investors, Capri Ventures and Superseed Ventures.

FieldPulse said this Series B funding comes at a pivotal time as the company has seen massive growth. The funding will be used to increase product and development, expand the team and bolster marketing initiatives.
