Coach Antonio Pierce said O'Connell will take the first snap over Gardner Minshew in the Raiders' upcoming quarterback competition, Paul Gutierrez of ESPN reports. Pierce praised O'Connell's work so far this offseason, mentioning how he's "changing his body, his work ethic, being here every day, blocking out the outside noise." He did also talk up Minshew and make it clear that Las Vegas considers the starting role up for grabs, saying a quarterback competition is good for motivation across the roster. O'Connell led the Raiders to a 5-5 record as a rookie last season, and this offseason, he'll work to take a step forward and build increased chemistry with Davante Adams, Jakobi Meyers and rookie tight end Brock Bowers.

Latest Raiders News
Aidan O'Connell : Early leader in competition
Dalton Wagner : Returns to practice field
Wagner participated in Las Vegas' offseason program Wednesday. Wagner signed with the Raiders as an undrafted free agent in 2023 but went down with a season-ending injury late in training camp. The issue wasn't disclosed, but he's back at full strength heading into 2024.
Kana'i Mauga : Back in action
Mauga (knee) participated in the Raiders' offseason program Wednesday. Mauga played in five games in 2023, contributing primarily on special teams. His campaign came to a close prematurely due to a knee injury, but it appears as if he's made a full recovery heading into 2024.
Brittain Brown : Healthy for offseason programs
Brown participated in the Raiders' offseason program in late April. Brown played in six games as a rookie in 2022, serving exclusively on special teams. His 2023 campaign ended abruptly after he was placed on injured reserve with an undisclosed issue at the close of training camp, but he'll seemingly enter the new campaign without any lingering issues.
Andrus Peat : Signs with Las Vegas
Peat signed with the Raiders on Monday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports. The offensive guard and three-time Pro Bowler spent his first nine seasons in New Orleans. Peat has started 102 of his 111 career games, but he is listed as the Raiders' backup left guard behind Dylan Parham.
Jalen Guyton : Links with Las Vegas
The Raiders signed Guyton to a contract Monday, Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com reports. Guyton is coming off a 2023 season in which a leg injury forced him to spend the first eight games on the PUP list, and he ended the next eight contests with a disappointing total of 10 catches on 21 targets for 89 yards and a touchdown. In the past Guyton has been a serviceable deep threat, having put up a career-best 31-448-3 receiving line on 48 targets back in 2021. He'll compete for a depth role behind Davante Adams, Jakobi Meyers and Michael Gallup.
Michael Gallup : Lands in Las Vegas
Gallup agreed to terms on a one-year, $3 million contract with the Raiders on Monday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports. After a six-year stint in Dallas to start his career, Gallup will get a fresh start in Las Vegas. His second year with the Cowboys generated plenty of optimism, as he tallied 1,107 yards receiving to go along with six touchdowns. However, he has failed to replicate those types of numbers since. With Davante Adams and Jakobi Meyers locked in as the Raiders' top pass catchers, Gallup will compete with the likes of Tre Tucker and DJ Turner, among others, for the No. 3 pass-catching role.
Aidan O'Connell : Remains set for QB battle
O'Connell remains in position to compete with Gardner Minshew for the starting job this offseason, after the Raiders refrained from selecting a rookie quarterback in the 2024 NFL Draft, Mark Anderson of the Associated Press reports. Las Vegas was an oft-theorized candidate to add a QB in April's draft, but six signal-callers ultimately went off the board before the team's first-round selection at No. 13 overall, which became playmaking tight end Brock Bowers. The team invested second- and third-round selections in offensive linemen Jackson Powers-Johnson and Delmar Glaze, putting whoever wins the 2024 starting gig in a better position for success. O'Connell completed 213 of 343 pass attempts for 2,218 yards, 12 touchdowns and seven interceptions across 10 starts last season, which is solid rookie numbers for a fourth-round pick, but Minshew boasts enough experience that this offseason should play out as a true competition.
