Latest Bills News
Mike Edwards : Misses Tuesday’s session
Edwards sat out Tuesday's OTA session due to a shoulder issue, Alec White of the Bills' official site reports. The Bills haven't indicated that Edwards' injury is anything serious, so he'll likely be back on the field by the time training camp opens in the summer. After signing a one-year deal in March, Edwards has a good chance of starting at free safety with Buffalo having thus far not made an effort to re-sign longtime secondary mainstay Micah Hyde, who is currently without a team and is a question mark to return to football due to long-time neck issues. Even if Hyde does return to the Bills, the younger and healthier Edwards may be the team's preferred starter anyway.
Matt Milano : Recovering as scheduled
Milano (leg) is "on schedule" in his recovery from a fractured leg, head coach Sean McDermott said Tuesday, Dan Fetes of 13WHAM reports. Milano is still in recovery mode, and he likely won't participate in drills until closer to training camp, McDermott added. However, as long as he stays on schedule, the veteran linebacker should be ready to go when Week 1 of the 2024 campaign begins.
Mack Hollins : More competition emerges
Hollins, who was signed as a free agent by the Bills in March, has seen the receiver room fill out in the time since, with the Bills drafting Keon Coleman in the second round of the 2024 NFL Draft while also adding veterans Curtis Samuel, Marquez Valdes-Scantling and Chase Claypool. For a very brief period, Hollins was a starter on the otherwise lethal Buffalo offensive depth chart, but things have changed and it now looks as if the Bills will let several journeymen duke it out for slotting. With Buffalo being likely to feature running back James Cook and tight end Dalton Kincaid heavily in the passing game, it's difficult to envision Hollins having anything more than a depth role as a receiver that offers good size in the red zone, though we'll also note he's never caught more than four touchdowns in an NFL season.
Dee Delaney : Signs with Buffalo
The Bills signed Delaney on Thursday, Nick Wojton of BillsWire.com reports. With Jordan Poyer having been poached by Miami and Micah Hyde eyeing retirement, Buffalo is understandably scrambling to restock at safety ahead of next season. Delaney recorded 25 tackles (17 solo) and two interceptions with Tampa Bay last year.
Chase Claypool : New competition in WR room
Claypool will have more competition for a roster spot after the Bills signed Marquez Valdes-Scantling to a one-year deal Tuesday. The Bills seem to be signing as many journeymen wideouts with proven upside as they can this offseason, and seeing who can stick alongside highly touted rookie Keon Coleman and third-year man Khalil Shakir. For now, it looks like MVS, Claypool, Curtis Samuel and Mack Hollins will battle for roster spots and positioning on the depth chart.
Marquez Valdes-Scantling : Gets one-year deal in Buffalo
The Bills are slated to sign Valdes-Scantling to a one-year contract worth up to $4.5 million Tuesday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports. Valdes-Scantling was released by the Chiefs back in February, and he now lands with another AFC powerhouse. Buffalo's revamped wide receiver corps, which lost Stefon Diggs via trade and Gabe Davis to free agency, could use a deep threat to complement Khalil Shakir, Curtis Samuel and rookie second-round pick Keon Coleman. Working as the No. 4 man on the depth chart could be an ideal situation for Valdes-Scantling to contribute, though if utilized only as a situation downfield target, he's more likely to slightly raise Josh Allen's ceiling than carry standalone value. Across 16 regular-season games last year, the 29-year-old compiled a career-low 21-315-1 receiving line.
Zach Davidson : Battling for depth role
Davidson (undisclosed) is competing for one of the Bills' final roster spots at tight end this offseason, Joe Buscaglia reports. Davidson missed the entire 2023 campaign after the Bills placed him on injured reserve last June. The nature of the 25-year-old's injury was never disclosed, though it appears he's now past this issue considering that he's set to compete for a depth role this offseason. Davidson's primary competition should be Tre' McKitty and Quintin Morris.
Baylon Spector : Fighting for top reserve role
Spector (back) is expected to compete with Dorian Williams for Buffalo's top backup role at linebacker, Joe Buscaglia of The Athletic reports. Spector appears to be recovered from the back injury that ended his 2023 season early, and his spot on the 53-man roster heading into training camp appears secure due to his standing as a key special-teams contributor. Because of his draft capital as a 2023 third-round pick, Williams will likely be the favorite to win the top backup role this offseason, but Spector could have a solid chance to earn more opportunities if he can impress in workouts.
