  4. Shout-out to Southern Illinois University for taking until today, May 17th, to reject me (I had already taken it as a presumed rejection but like... how?)
  5. Makes sense, I also think bio is on a slightly later timeline than cultural just going off of panel dates.
  6. Just as an FYI, I don't think anything in the portal changes unless you're declined, or have completed all the paperwork and have been funneled through the funding process. Mine is also still pending but I don't think it matters.
  7. I did hear back a few days ago that I will be recommended for funding. They haven't released comments or ratings to me yet. It was my first try so I'm in disbelief, but those of you applying again, stay hopeful! Most people I know applied twice. Good luck!

my feeling is that if no interview request is received by today, it's probably a reasonable expectation that it's a no. really sucks, but for me at least, time to move on to other opportunities! it's been nice to share the wait with others, wishing you all the best of luck! (if by chance I do receive a request, I will still post on here) all the best!
  9. Yep, that's how I'm reading it. Six weeks before Sept is ~July 22.
  10. @bayessays and @hopeful__undergrad Thank you both for your feedback, it is much appreciated. I mostly liked Northwestern due to its proximity to Chicago and historical prestige. I did recently discover that they have a biostatistics emphasis under their Health Sciences Integrated Program (HSIP), do the same issues with NU's statistics department relate to their biostats? Additionally, I included New Hampshire as a safety school that is in a location that I liked, but I will look into other possible safety schools if this program is relatively unheard of. I also have one more question, I know that there are a lot of schools that are saying that GRE scores are "not required," does this mean that they won't consider any scores when submitted? Or could a high GRE score help my chances of getting into the top universities on my list? I recently toured Northwestern's campus and really enjoyed it, it was the only school on my list that required the GRE (their biostats emphasis does not require it), so I am wondering if studying/taking the test is worth my time and money. Thanks again!

no problem, glad i could help!
  12. Not to derail this thread, but I agree with @hopeful__undergrad and would highly recommend against applying to the incredibly unprofessional department at Northwestern. I'm also not sure why New Hampshire is on your list. It sticks out among the other highly-ranked departments; I didn't even know they have a statistics department. For survival analysis, you'll definitely want to apply to biostatistics programs. I think you'll have better success there anyways, so honestly I would just look at US News top 20 biostatistics programs and apply to any that look appealing to you. Your profile is good - you might have trouble at top departments, because they won't quite know if you're able to handle the math because your undergrad is not from an elite school. (I've seen people with 4.0 from directional state schools fail out of first year master's classes, so I'd personally be a little hesitant, but I think your research experience helps alleviate some of these concerns. Still, I think your profile plays better at biostats programs.)
  13. I don't think sports analytics is an issue - if you don't want to work in sports though, the one disadvantage is that you won't have an area of expertise that you can use to gain an advantage in the job market. If you research clinical trials, you'll be set for pharma jobs; if you do spatial statistics, there are jobs that want those skills - you might be giving up an opportunity to develop some other area of expertise. But I don't think it'll be looked down upon - I can think of one person recently who got a great professorship after doing sports analytics. When you say T50, I assume it's ranked below 30-40. I think that's a pretty big difference in program strength. There are programs in the 25-30 range that compete with top 10 programs, but there's really no comparison between a 40-50 program and a T10. I am not somebody who thinks that rankings are the most important thing ever, but unless you have strong personal reasons for choosing the lower-ranked schools, I think you'll really suffer from having less rigorous classes, a weaker cohort of fellow students, and fewer opportunities to work with good researchers.
  14. Thanks for biting the bullet, Mari! At least now we all have a date range to think about! We're all in this together 🦾
  15. I can't speak to the other questions, but Northwestern Stats is not known for any of your listed interests. In fact I do not think they have anyone doing any work in those areas. I was a graduate student in that department and dropped out due to how uninterested the faculty were, in working with students, and how toxic some faculty members are to their students. Unless major changes happen, I would not recommend anyone to apply to that department. Anyone is welcome to DM me if they have questions regarding Northwestern's program.
  16. I got accepted to a T10 PhD in Statistics with its research lab in sports analytics and a T50 PhD in Statistics with no lab for now but I saw lots of faculties with my interest (finance). Side note a good amount of my stipends for the T10 program is from the lab so I'm not sure about the chance of changing lab and also afraid to ask. (it might show my obvious disinterest in the lab?) I know the answer to school name or topic is always topic, but my situation is a little different because I do enjoy sports analytics (have an undergrad published paper). My concern is that I don't want to work in sports field after PhD. I lean towards industry more than academia and am afraid that doing research in sports might affect my chance to find jobs as sports analytics is not a respectable(?) field in statistics. I do love the T50 school and are happy with its location and stipends. But again this would probably be the last school attached to my name and I don't know if it would be the dumpest choice ever to choose a smaller school over an ivy. My main question is that would sport analytics research allow me to find jobs in industry other than sports?
  17. I am another former student at CWRU and I am chiming in to support AnodyneBalloon and LochNess. Please do not attend this program. Someone on GradCafe warned me about a certain professor there before I enrolled, and I did not heed their advice and I truly regretted it. Not only did it wasted my time, but my experience was so destructive that I don't think I will stay in this discipline. They failed me so badly. I did not feel being listened to and cared for, and favoritism was very obvious. I was made feeling small and stupid, which I know I am not. Really, it was just awful. Please please please do not do medieval art at CWRU.
  18. folks with a September start date, are you waiting to upload your first instalment form? It says it can be received up to 6 weeks in advance, so I wasn't sure if that means don't upload it until 6 weeks before.
  19. Hey there, just got my result back this morning which was a decline. I too am sitting at the 'competitive' level (very good, very good, good), but there's also a bunch of feedback I've got to tackle for the revisions. I am attempting to perceive the copious amount of critical feedback as a blessing rather than a bummer, but boy oh boy does it feel like i have a small mountain to climb before the next application round. Wishing the best of luck to everyone still in the running! @Himalayan_Buwoi
  20. A couple of questions about the forms, particularly the Payee and Direct Deposit Enrolment Form. They ask for your reference number - what reference number? On the right hand side, they ask for a 'PRI' and a 'BN (CDN)' which I guess refers to Canadian bank number, i.e. the institution number? For those of you not in Canada, did you choose to convert your currency to another bank account? I'm wondering if the gov't takes care of all the conversion fees and everything that is usually associated with converting currency.
  21. I am also wondering this. I responded to the email I originally received with a request for my score but I didn't get a response.
  22. Hello, I heard that there has been a massive change (replacement of professors) at Slade School of Fine art. Has anyone heard of this? If you know of any changes to their curriculum or direction of work since then, please share! There is no information on the internet.😢Thank u
  23. We recently released information about graduate applications to AI programs. You can find our short report in our post here: Graduate Admissions Show Surge Toward Artificial Intelligence.
  24. Thanks guys. I kept checking. I think it goes to the PI and we get it from them. But fastlane was my every morning portal... Yeah. It was great because being on the competitive category seems to be the top list- but since many also fell on that category, it goes through different reviews individually to accept/reject to match their funding. Also I was told by my officer(whom I had emailed) that their review cycle is ongoing and things should be final by Memorial Day weekend. Good luck guys. This was my first attempt so will try again addressing their feedback.
  25. Hey, not sure if anyone is able to answer this but I thought I would ask anyways. Are the only schools looking at SubGPA Western, UofT, and UofA? Also if my SubGPA is a 3.86 does anyone think it’s worth it to take another course and bring it up to a 3.89? I wasn’t able to get into any schools this year and I honestly just do not know what to do to better my package for next year. 😕
