The Hello-Thread: Please Allow Me To Introduce Myself 👋

This thread shall be generally used by the people who are new to the forum and would like to introduce themselves. I think there's no reason to start a new thread each time someone new likes to say hello.

To start off this whole thing I'd like to say hello myself. I'm around this site for about a month and submitted some stuff but I never took the time to introduce myself somehow. My name is Alexander, I'm 29 and I live in the north of Germany. I sing and I play guitar since the age of 14. My main instruments are a Gibson J-45 and a Martin DRS1. I've been in different bands from quiet folk to system-of-a-down'ish metal but I'm mostly into indie and folky country and songwriter stuff. Ryan Adams is an icon and The Milk Carton Kids are one of my favorites. This site eats my time and I love it.

Hello everyone!

Good idea. I'll sticky it to the top of the General forum. I'll throw my "hello" in as well 😄

I was born in Italy but currently live in Austin, TX, USA and co-founded this here website with mahhh man, my partner in crime @michael. I'm a tech nerd, developer, and musician, so in a lot of ways making Equipboard is the appropriate culmination of my passions.

I'm formally trained in piano, have produced electronic music, I'm a shitty drummer, but enjoy playing guitar most of all these days. Normally I'm a Telecaster guy, but as of late my go-to has transitioned to my recently acquired 1972 Gibson ES-325 with a beautiful walnut finish.

In terms of music taste, agh man I like so much stuff. I'd say I skew towards spacey/melodic/minor key music, whatever that means. Artists I love: Underworld, Fluke, Oasis/Noel Gallagher, Editors, Interpol, Mat Zo, Arty, Porter Robinson, Coldplay, Muse, and probably my all time favorite Depeche Mode. 🎵

Let's see, other stuff... I have two newborn twin boys, so they shall fight for the music gear inheritance (hopefully they don't pawn the entire thing when that day comes 😆). I love running, watching and playing tennis, Formula 1 racing, amongst other things.

If you wanna know more, AMA I guess!

Hello there. My name is Kristian, I'm from Croatia and I'm 15. I'm relatively new to stuff, and I play guitar since 13. I use Squier Affinity through Fender Frontman amplifier. I really like criticizing people and being angry, but at the same time, you will heavily considering me to label as "a nice guy".

I hate movies, but I love plays. I love music, especially Britpop and indie rock. I'm into Smiths, Oasis, Haim, She Loves Pablo, Green Day and The Futureheads. I also enjoy classical music (Vivaldi, Bartok and Mozart in particular) and I also love shoegaze and some of the classic rock (technically, that's what I'm interested in)

I also enjoy doing shortwave radio listening and writing poems, and I collect vinyls, pins, old money, and I enjoy collecting those sticker albums Panini releases every 2 years, I think. I do Equipboard when I'm on a break or something like that, so if I'm gone for 2 weeks or something, don't worry.

Jim. 35 year-old single father of 1 unruly 2 year old boy. Native Philadelphian though i have been all over in my professional music career. I have been an accomplished amature since about 2011 when i threw in the towell on making my living soley as a player, engineer and songwriter and got a respectable day job.

Non-music interests include physics, electronics, astronomy, philisophy, political science and ancient history. Favorite authors are Plato, Machiavelli, Plutarch, William Gibson, Colleen McCullough, Margaret Atwood, Shakespeare, Frank Herbert, etc.

Instruments are Guitar, Piano, Bass, Violin, Viola Cello though I pretty much gave up the classical strings 10 years ago. I can still play a little though. I have 28 years music experience and 25 years guitar playing. Extensive jazz background in highschool and college, though I am more of a rock guitarist by inclination and style. My jazz trining informs a lot of what I do. I read and write classical notation as well as Nashville charts. I cannot make head nor tail of tablature unless I stare at it for like 20 minutes.

Favorite bands and albums are too numerous and diverse to be worth recounting.

some of my random musical endeavors including works in progress (personal, not for hire) are on my soundcloud:

I'm 30 years old. I'm a full-time student at South Plains College in Lubbock, TX. I attended Sul Ross State University about 10 years ago but did nothing important while there due to laziness and extensive drug use. I am not super sure what I want to be. I am certified as a digital forensics analyst and am currently working on a degree in cyber security. I don't love computers though. It is a decision based on needing a career that can be done without physical ability (paralysis) and likelihood for jobs in the future. I am not paralyzed, but I was in a major accident in February of 2014. I hit ice on a bridge and flipped my truck over the rial and down into the valley below. I was nearly uninjured but it made me realize how easily someone can lose their body.

I work full-time as the over-night manager of a supermarket here in town. I have impressed my professor this year with my ability to teach as well as my musical ability. He is encouraging me to go for an educational field of career and has hooked me up with School of Rock here in town as an instructor.

I play bass first and foremost. I can play a little acoustic, classical, and electric guitar. I have played Tuba, Baritone, and trombone. I taught myself how to play The Undertaker's march and Kane's theme on the piano/organ but that's the extent of the keys for me. I grew up singing in church and used to have a great voice, all be it a high one for my size. The last 5 years or so I have really lost control of my voice, so I don't use it anymore.

I am a Christian. Saying that these days is very broad though. The sect of Christianity that I agree with the most is Independent Baptist, though I do disagree with 1 or 2 doctrines they profess. I was agnostic for many years and even violent and offensive to religious folk. Many of my passed friends were what I call "Angry Atheists". These are people that not only have their own disbelief in a creator, which is acceptable socially, but also actively seek to fight, anger, and hurt people who have a faith that differs. The last 6 months I have been out of church. I defiantly feel a difference in my emotional and mental state. Church is like therapy for me and I decline as a person when I am out of it. I started drinking, dipping, cussing, and so on since my absence and all of these things I believe are against what my faith. There was a time when I was an active door knocker and even considered becoming a missionary. I am now looking into joining the Air Force if possible to meet that need of seeing the world.

I live with roommates. Currently with a guy from Guiana Africa, and another from Austin, TX.

Bands I've enjoyed throughout life are as follows.

Metallica, Pantera, GWAR, Weird Al, BabyMetal, Ace of Bass, Canibal Corpse, Tool, Megadeth, Dream Theater, Jackson 5, No Doubt, The Police, Eminem, Garth Brooks, In The Midst of Lions, Mastodon, Slayer, Lamb of God, Heaven and Hell, Iron Maiden, Rush, PowerGlove.

Hey, I'm Josiah; guitar, bass, violin, keyed stuff, and drums, though I'm no pro at the last two. I enjoy writing, creating, and listening to music, as well as climbing, writing other bits, and pieces, short stories, and poetry, etc, and I still have my epee though my club stopped having epeeists exept for a once a month meet, and the nearest club was in stockport, which is way too far away for me to be bothered (Was once in the UK top 40 under 12s, but that was a good few years ago)

In terms of music I love Mogwai, Tortoise, Russian Circles, Thiswilldestroyyou, sigur ros, 65dos, eits, and GS!YBE, as well as slowdive, ride, Bauhaus, my bloody valentine, the smiths, the jesus, and mary chain, and chon, polyphia, periphery, tesseract, btbam, pantera, iron maiden etc. As a summary I guess, I'm fairly eclectic.

The music I write is a sort of shioegazy-post-rock, and my band writes alt-rock music (Got my first gig in a few weeks!)

I use a squire vm jazzmaster, though I'm saving to get a better guitar that's a little more versatile. My amp is a laney vc30, nice vox clone, and my pedals are all on a pic in my gearporn.

God bless you if you can teach. I used to teach guitar to fill in my income when I was playing with these guys http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v463/idavisjr/Music/UMB.jpg

doing original music instead of engineering records and working as a sideman. There's not a lot of profit touring around as a regional band with a patchy following. I amamazed by any musician who can teach. Its such a struggle whether you've got beginners or more intermediate players it can just be hard to explain a lot of the physicality not to mention the frustration of students who do not practice.

I actually know the dude who created the school of rock franchise. He sold it many years ago, but it was originally just a couple locations around Philly. I never taught for Paul myself, but I have a number of friends who did. Last I heard he had blown all of the settlement money from the school of rock film on fast women and slow horses, his wife left him, and he had gotten a place in the poconos where he's systematically spending his remaining fortune on hookers, beer and blow.... or it could just be rumors from disgruntled former employees. Apparently all you teachers are better off under new management. I should follow this up by sayng that, while Paul and his founding cohorts of SofR could be abrasive at the best of moments, I knew them all to hearts of gold (for music biz types). I may have better manners than those guys, but I was a real dick bag of a human being back then and I wouldn't have blamed Paul for giving me a swift kick in the mouth or firm love tap with a bat on more than one occasion (look at the 2 guys in that picture with dyed hair, me and Bryan were not always the kind and tolerant men we are today). Instead he was tolerant and forgiving... but the school of rock saga makes for a series of amusing anecdotes I can't help but share.

Everyone here with such interesting pasts and long paragraphs and I'm just here as the youngest (I think) on the site xD

Alright.

Hi there, I'm Ridwan. I was born in Canada. Currently living in a South American country by the name of Guyana. Turned 16 a few months ago. Currently finishing up my last year in high school writing the annual Caribbean examinations which start next week. Huge fan of deadmau5 and Moog and other analog synths. Used to play a keyboard back when I was younger and then I stopped for reasons I'm not even sure of. Recently playing on my keyboard, I realized how much I missed it.

Started music production sometime around October-November 2014 and still doing that to this date. I find it really fun and sadly it takes up alot of my time when I should be doing other things XD Over the years and few months, I've learned quite alot and still am learning but now I find myself sometimes helping out a few friends who are new to production..

Other than that I do graphic design and photography/retouching. Nothing too impressive in any of these areas but veteran skill from years experience is what sets you apart from the rest.

I've been on EB for quite some time now. The guys here are friendly and really entertaining at times (looking at you @jimmarchi1) Hope you newcomers find it as fun as I did.

Hello to you all!

In the spirit of being neighborly, er... maybe friendly is a better term, I've got some crazy neighbors,... I figured I should follow suit and say hello while also giving a nod to the real EquipBoard movers and shakers.

My name is Michael. I am a Digital Artist/Designer by trade and a Musician at heart. As a Utahn, I was originally plucked from my own private Idaho. Nothing exotic. My wife and I prefer dogs to kids and love to travel. In getting out, we aim toward destinations based on regional cuisine. I love music, but live for food.

As for music, I started on clarinet when I really wanted to play drums. I pitched the woodwind for guitar, then took up piano before I ever got to drums. Playing off-and-on for the last 39 years, my musical tastes are geared towards guitar, though I would take Ginger Baker over God any day.

I've really found my time spent on EB to be inspiring if not thought provoking and some of the conversations have definitely sent me down the rabbit hole (thanks Jim!) on my own little tone quest.

So to you all, I'd like to also give a hearty thank you for the good info and healthy perspective.

Cheers!

~m

I've known a few people from Guyana. If you plan to pick a random watermelon make sure you're not on private property before you do it, those watermelon farmers are violently defensive of their produce.

and yeah, I know I have an outsized personality, but I don't think that's atypical of creative types from my generation... younger people have a whole different creative culture then what I grew up with

Only Guyana tips I know to give are as follows...

  1. Don't drink free Kool-Aid

there's actually 2 guyanas too... I forget which one harbored Jonestown... but whichever one you're in, don't try to swipe a watermelon, a farmer straight up shot some kids a few years ago
