Our Digital Policy, Cyber Security, and Data Protection Team is looking for an intern, who is interested in applying the knowledge acquired during their studies, and to gain practical experience of our day-to-day activities.
We are looking for individuals with an interest for interdisciplinary research in digital transformations, data protection, and technological innovation, who are eager to contribute to the ethical use of AI in public administrations. This role is best suited for individuals who are impact-driven, curious, and motivated to contribute to the future of AI in the European public sector.
You will be located in Maastricht working closely with another Research Assistant, providing support in the research activities and training in the area of EU judicial cooperation in civil and criminal matters and, in particular, you will:
The Project Organisation (PO) team in Maastricht consists of 6 experienced colleagues, who take care of the logistics of all activities and provide administrative support. Cooperating closely with EIPA experts/project leaders, they ensure the coordination with other divisions (Finance, Marketing, Internal Services, etc.). They liaise with clients, external experts, participants and subcontractors/suppliers (e.g. hotels, restaurants, translation/interpretation) and are involved in both the preparation and implementation of projects.
Our new colleague will provide administrative, logistical and organisational assistance for projects and training activities (both contract and open-enrolment). Also, you assist the experts in the organisation of (online) courses and provide online support where necessary. You report directly to the Head of Project Organisation.
Our Public Procurement team is looking for an intern who is interested in applying the knowledge and skills acquired during their studies and gaining practical experience in this field. Our Better Regulation team is looking for an intern who is interested in applying the knowledge and skills acquired during their studies and gaining practical experience in this field. The main working areas will be general EU law, with a specific focus on EU judicial cooperation instruments, but including the enforcement of EU law and the procedures before the Court of Justice of the European Union. The main responsibilities will include training, working on research and research grants for customers such as the EU institutions, public administrations of the EU Member States, as well as associate and candidate countries and the various branches of legal professions.
The progressive process of datafication, turning many aspects of our life into digital data, has immensely influenced the rapid evolution of the new technologies and transformation of our society. Data is at the centre of this digital revolution, and we are fully aware of the breadth and the pervasiveness of the processing, use and transfer of personal data. And while this exchanges and processing of personal data can bring tremendous benefits, new vulnerabilities can be exploited. Data protection and data security are more than ever playing an essential intertwined role in safeguarding our fundamental rights. Identifying the new vulnerabilities that could be exploited by malicious parties and new ways of ensuring that critical infrastructure, systems, and assets are safe is paramount for protecting our privacy.

The successful candidate should be able to contribute at a general level to our activities on legislative procedures, Commission procedures for adoption of non-legislative acts, procedures in the area of economic governance, and other aspects of EU governance and policy processes, as well as having a high level of specialised competence in at least one of these areas.
The Project Organiser will report to the PO Coordinator and cooperate closely with the financial department at EIPA Luxembourg, with colleagues at EIPA’s headquarters in Maastricht and with the scientific staff in Luxembourg on a project-by-project basis.
