Robert De Niro, 80, confesses he 'doesn't do the heavy lifting' when it comes to raising his youngest child Gia, six months, and leaves it to his partner Tiffany Chen, 45

Robert De Niro has admitted he 'doesn't do the heavy-lifting' when it comes to raising his youngest daughter Gia, six months, and leaves it to his partner.

The Hollywood actor, 80, and his girlfriend Tiffany Chen, 45, welcomed their first child together in April, marking the seventh time Robert became a father.

Robert has confessed that Tiffany does most of the 'work' with caring for their little one, while they also receive help with childcare.

He told the Guardian newspaper: 'It [having children] doesn't get easier. It is what it is. It's OK. I mean, I don't do the heavy lifting. I'm there, I support my girlfriend. But she does the work. And we have help, which is so important.'

Robert said that he stills enjoys fatherhood, telling the publication: ' [I enjoy] all of it! With a baby it's different to with my 11-year-old. My adult children. My grandchildren. It's all different ... I don't talk to the adult children the way I talk to my baby or the way I speak to my 11-year-old, though she's pretty smart.'

Elsewhere during the interview, the veteran actor admitted that his hopes for the future include 'staying alive'

He added: 'Of course I think about it [death], at my age ... It's not going to stop me, but you think about it ... I'm aware of it. You think more about time. Every summer, every new season, everything, you say: 'Well, I'm going to use these few months of the summer to be with my kids, my family.'

'I can't wait until the next – I don't know what's going to happen. So each thing becomes more important. Everything I do, time-wise, is important. Whatever I'm thinking about doing in two years, I'd better think about doing it now.'

In July, Tiffany revealed that she suffered from a 'postpartum complication' after the couple welcomed their daughter together.

In her first interview since the birth, Tiffany opened up to CBS Morning co-host Gayle King about her experience in a candid chat.

The couple surprised the world with news of the birth of their daughter, Gia in May. The news came after the couple, who have been linked since summer 2021, first met on the film set of the actor's hit 2015 comedy, The Intern.

Robert also father to Drena, 51, Raphael, 46, twins Julian and Aaron, 27, Elliot, 24, and Helen, 11.

Tiffany's interview came as the wider De Niro family was in mourning following the tragic death of the actor's 18-year-old grandson, Leandro.

Leandro's shock death happened on July 5 when the teenager's lifeless body was found sitting in a chair beside white powder inside a $950,000, one-bedroom apartment in the Cipriani Club Residences on Wall Street, New York.

His mother Drena then claimed that her son died after taking an overdose of fentanyl.

'Someone sold him fentanyl laced pills that they knew were laced yet still sold them to him,' the Oscar-winning actor's heartbroken daughter claimed on Instagram.

She added: 'For all these people still f**king around selling and buying this s**t, my son is gone forever.'

The grieving mother made the remark in response to a commenter who asked her how her son had died.

A funeral service for the teen saw De Niro joined the likes of Tommy Mottola, Christopher Walken, Harvey Keitel as they helped their friend mourn the loss of his grandchild.

The longtime entertainer shared a glimpse of his seventh child during an appearance on CBS Mornings in May.

He then opened up about his newborn daughter during an appearance on the Today Show during Tribeca Film Festival weeks later.

In regards to how he has changed as a father, the star told host Hoda Kotb: 'I have certain awareness — when you're older you have awareness of certain things in life, dynamics, everything, family dynamics.'

The Goodfellas actor added: 'You can't avoid learning certain things and how you can deal with those and manage them and this and that, the usual.

'It's amazing, but I'm very happy about it.'

Shortly after the news of his new family addition came to light, the actor told Page Six that welcoming his seventh child was 'planned' and questioned 'How you could not plan that kind of thing?'

Ahead of Father's Day, Robert discussed his children with People and revealed that his six older children had not yet met his two-month-old daughter. 'Not yet, but they will,' he stated.

Robert will be seen on the big screen next in the highly anticipated Killers of the Flower Moon.

The film based on the bestseller by the same name co-stars Leonardo DiCaprio and was directed by good friend Martin Scorsese.

The movie tells the sad but true story about the investigation into the mysterious murders of member of the Osage tribe in Oklahoma in the 1920s.
