Danny DeVito, 78, confirms there are plans set for a Matilda reunion with lead actress Mara Wilson, 36, 'soon'

Danny DeVito has confirmed the exciting plans for a Matilda reunion alongside lead actress Mara Wilson.

The actor, 78, who played Harry Wormwood, and actress, 36, who played Matilda, are 'soon' planning to collaborate on a concert version of the 1996 movie.

The pair plan to narrate the film over a live score by composer David Newman.

According to The Messenger, Danny said: 'Mara and I were planning to perform Matilda live with the New Jersey Philharmonic Orchestra just before the strike hit.

'We had it all set, but after the strike hit, we couldn’t proceed because it would be seen as a promotion for a movie.

'However, we’re still planning to do that. We’re going to watch the movie with David Newman’s score and try to do it sometime soon, as it seems the strike may be coming to an end, I hope!'

It comes after Danny opened up on his iconic career, admitting he was never upset that he never became a traditional 'leading man' in Hollywood.

The actor made his feature film debut in the 1975 Best Picture winner One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, and while he's had a long and successful career spanning nearly five decades, he hasn't had too many leading man roles in that time.

The actor was promoting his role in Disney's The Haunted Mansion - which debuted in third place at the box office this weekend - in an interview with Parade where he revealed that he's perfectly happy where he is.

DeVito used to be neighbors with Brad Pitt when he was married to Jennifer Aniston, and he was asked if he was 'glad' that he never became a huge movie star like Pitt.

'I don’t celebrate the fact that I’m not Clark Gable. I do celebrate that I am who I am,' DeVito said.

He was also asked if he ever aspired to be a 'full-time leading man' like Pitt, adding that Brad is one of his favorites.

'I’m a big fan of Brad and Humphrey Bogart and [Jack] Nicholson and Leonardo. The painter, not the actor. Only kidding!' DeVito joked.

Reunion: If the proposal continues to go ahead, it will see the pair narrate the film over a live score by composer David Newman (1996)

'You know, we all have a place. I did imagine my place would be closer to Peter Lorre or Edward G. Robinson or even W.C. Fields,' DeVito admitted.

When asked what it was like living next to Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston, the actor had nothing but great things to say about them.

'They had a very private beautiful home and they were great neighbors. And they had a giant hedge and a gate,' DeVito began.

'Brad, God bless him, was very protective of his family. I would be going to work or coming out of the driveway, and I would see one of the tour buses,' he continued.

'People would be standing in front of this hedge getting their picture taken. All you could see was the hedge! But it’s Brad and Jennifer’s hedge, and that is something meaningful. Maybe they took a leaf and put it into a book as a souvenir,' he joked.

He was also asked if it was a 'thrill' to star in a big-budget major studio movie like Disney's The Haunted Mansion at this stage in his career.
