is quite popular for dogs and cat ear mites.
Regular flea treatment will take care of mites on the body or on the bedding. Treatment should go on for at least 3 weeks. There are many preparations that work. Bayer's Advantage Multi is labelled for use against fleas and ear mites as is Revolution.
They all require several treatments to kill any mite that might have hatched or emerged since the first treatment. The treatment work best on full grown mites and larva, not as well on eggs and mites that are pupating in their coccoon. Treatment needs to be at least 3 week duration to get at the mites that have newly emerged.
It is not safe to use medications designed for other animals on cats. Cats are very susecptible to poisoning from common flea medicine used around dogs, such as PERMYTHRIN. It is deadly to cats.
The good news is that ear mites are killed by most drop-between-the-shoulders types of flea killers so if you regularly treat your cat for fleas, he's unlikely to have ear mites.
Treating the animal is essential but the cat's environment such as beds and carpets should be cleaned as well. If cleaning is not possible, thorough frequent vacuuming is useful.
