Mike FPE is someone I’ve enjoyed following on both Instagram and Youtube for a while, and his content is based around older Ford Fiestas. Small-fords in Australia are usually concentrated on the Mk1/Mk2 Escort platform, so it’s nice to get my fix of models I don’t usually see here. Recently, Mike made the enviable trek to Berg Cup in Germany, and was gracious enough to film the experience to share with his audience. Peugeot 106 hillclimb home-build
You know the drill, what starts off as a quick bit of rust repair turns into a full bare-shell rotisserie build. Not that we’re complaining, right?! This little Pug receives a lot of love from it’s owner, and his welder. Roll cage, suspension, machining, bike carbs, wiring; this build has it all. Most importantly, it just recently came back to life after a 2-year hiatus, so let’s hope the updates will be arriving thick and fast from now on.

Audi S1 V8 TT
Does anyone build normal retro Audi’s? Or are they all completely bonkers? For a car company that emits a rather subdued tone, churning out understated luxury cars with a few sports models in between, their fan-base sure do like to turn up the wick on their own 4-ringed vehicles. This S1 comes courtesy of Dave at EPS Motorsport, an Australian living in the UK, who saw fit to put his Quattro atop a a space frame chassis, with early Formula 1 control arms, composite body panels, and a twin turbo V8 thrown in for good measure.

Mk1 Golf Kamei Replica
I’ve got a fair few builds that have been sitting in my inbox for quite a while, so for this post I decided to go all the way back to my oldest submission from June 2010, 3 years ago! Looking at it now, I’m kicking myself for not featuring it sooner. You should know by now that I have a penchant for MK1 Golfs, and this one here is actually a Kamei replica created from what was already a clean street car. This build combines 3 of my loves: Mk1’s, retro liveries, and hill climb racers. If it was a Datsun I think my head would explode. For some history on Kamei, click here and here.

Peugeot 205 Hillclimber
A few months ago I took a step forward in this little hobby of ours and bought myself a Mig welder. Since then I’ve made a few custom parts and brackets, added some new metal to my radiator support panel, and even helped a mate plug up some holes in his engine bay. I was starting to feel pretty proud of my accomplishments; then I received an email from Cameron about his Peugeot 205 build and I came crashing back down to reality. You see, Cameron studied Motorsport Engineering and now works for Ford in the UK as a suspension systems engineer, so he knows a thing or two about how cars work, especially his Peugeot 205. The plan for this little hatch is a space-frame chassis with double wishbone and push-rod suspension, front engine (ish), rear wheel drive, ~350bhp and carbon panels for a target weight of 600kg including the driver. Be sure to keep an eye out for an update in the future when the car is closer to completion.
F1300T Hillclimb Racer
For some people, modifying an existing car isn’t enough, even completely dismantling one and reassembling it 10x better just won’t satisfy them. Oh no, they just have to show off their amazing amount of talent and build a car from scratch, the jerks! As you can tell by my jealousy, this is one impressive creation, based on an aluminium tube frame with a Hyabusa engine (to be turbocharged at a later date). It’s not quite finished yet so I’ll be sure to update again when it hits the road.
