Thus far, the 2023 NFL season has been defined by its unpredictability. The race to be named league MVP has followed suit, with the landscape shifting on a week-to-week basis.

Lamas Jackson and Jalen Hurts both moved up following big Week 7 wins, while Tua Tagovailoa's second bad game of the season knocked him off the pedestal. However, it was a four-touchdown performance from Patrick Mahomes that had the biggest impact.

The Kansas City Chiefs signal-caller saw his odds jump from +450 (bet $100 to win $450) to +275.

Can Mahomes stay on top? What other MVP values are worth targeting in Week 8? Let's take a look.

Target Lamar Jackson Among the Favorites

With a lot of shuffling going on among the league's top quarterbacks, the one who plays for the team with the best record may wind up winning MVP. That could be Mahomes, but his current odds aren't all that enticing.

Tua Tagovailoa has benefited from playing several bad teams. When the Miami Dolphins have been up against quality squads, like the Buffalo Bills and Philadelphia Eagles, his performance has suffered.

Tagovailoa had just 216 yards, one touchdown, one interception and an 87.5 passer rating against the Eagles on Sunday. Until/unless his odds see a downshift, Tagovailoa doesn't provide a lot of value either.

Jalen Hurts is creeping back into the mix, but his numbers are down significantly from last season. The Eagles keep finding wins, but Hurts has thrown eight interceptions and has a passer rating of just 87.8. Even if Philly has the league's best record, Hurts might not get enough of the credit.

Jackson, though, is likely to get a ton of credit if the Baltimore Ravens secure the AFC's No. 1 seed. He passed for 357 yards and three touchdowns against the Detroit Lions in Week 7 and is up to 1,610 yards and a 101.9 passer rating on the season. The 26-year-old has also racked up 363 rushing yards and five rushing touchdowns.

Among the favorites this week, Jackson provides the best value at +650.

It's Time to Forget About Brock Purdy

A week ago, we suggested waiting to give up on San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy. He was coming off an awful performance against a very good Cleveland Browns defense, but his odds at +1100 were still intriguing.

However, Purdy laid another egg on Monday night against the Minnesota Vikings, and he can pretty much be dismissed as an MVP candidate.

Opposing defenses have started to figure out how to make Purdy uncomfortable, and he's struggled mightily with Deebo Samuel (shoulder) out of the lineup. The second-year signal-caller threw for 272 yards and a touchdown against the Vikings but was also picked off twice.

His late fourth-quarter interception sealed the victory for Minnesota. That's going to leave a lasting impression on MVP voters, even if the 49ers get back to their winning ways with Purdy performing well.

It's clear that everything has to be going perfectly in San Francisco for Purdy to perform like a top-tier signal-caller. That doesn't mean that he isn't the 49ers quarterback of the future, but it does mean that he's not the league's most valuable player this season.

Consider Taking a Flier on Myles Garrett

The MVP has become a quarterback award, and no defensive player has won it since Lawrence Taylor in 1986. This is precisely why Browns defensive end Myles Garrett is an extreme long shot at +20,000.

At those odds, however, it's worth taking a small flier on the 27-year-old.

Cleveland just won its second straight game with backup quarterback P.J. Walker, and Garrett carried the team. He had two sacks, two forced fumbles—one that resulted in a defensive touchdown—and one of the most incredible blocked field goals you're likely to see.

Garrett ranks third in the NFL with 7.5 sacks and second with 16 quarterback hits, according to Pro Football Reference. He has three forced fumbles, tied for most in the NFL, six tackles for loss and 22 quarterback pressures in six games.

Perhaps most importantly, Garrett has helped lead Cleveland to a 4-2 record despite a slew of offensive injuries and issues. If the Browns make an improbable run at their first AFC North title and Garrett stays on his ridiculous pace, he'll absolutely have an argument for being the league's most valuable player.

A quarterback will probably win the award anyway, but when a $10 wager will yield $2,000, Garrett is worth a flier.
