民進黨立委趙天麟遭爆與中國女子有婚外情，影響其多年來的愛妻愛家的正面好形象。昨上午他於記者會中公開坦承這是多年前發生的事，並為多年前的事宜向妻子及支持者致歉，當被問到是否退出立委選舉，趙天麟未多做回應便離開。經過一天的沉澱，趙天麟24日晚間在他的臉書上宣布將退出立委選舉。
昨日上午，趙天麟於記者會中對多年前與大陸籍女子發生的婚外情事件作出回應。他深感慚愧，表示那是一段不應該發生的過去，當時已得到妻子的原諒，卻沒想到時隔多年再度成為焦點。在向外界解釋前，他已對家人表達歉意，而孩子也給予他鼓勵。他強調，這是他的私事，希望不要牽扯到其他人，並期盼能獲得社會大眾的諒解。說畢後，他向現場鞠躬後迅速離開。
民進黨主席賴清德被問及此事時則表示，當事人自己的事情有責任對家庭、對社會說明清楚，這是無可迴避的責任。
趙天麟昨晚間在他的臉書發聲明表示，我決定退出這次的立委連任。私領域的犯錯，再次向家人及支持者致歉，謝謝大家的批評與包容。公領域的部分，「我不曾有任何問題」，我過去12年的立委生涯，無論在衛環、內政還是國防委員會，都竭盡心力，守護台灣、建設地方。
趙天麟強調，我決定退選是對挺台灣支持者負責任的態度，一起完成總統與國會過半的大局，我會從候選人無縫接軌為助選志工，除了讓高雄市第六選區民進黨立委候選人當選外，還要幫總統衝高票，全國各地如果有需要，我都願意盡力幫忙。我會善盡職責到本屆的最後一天，包括明後天的國防預算審查，捍衛潛艦國造等預算，一定有我的一票！
