Inside Benny Blanco’s Fun-Filled L.A. Home
Today, AD is welcomed by hit music producer Benny Blanco to tour his home in Los Angeles. Built in 1939, Blanco’s spacious home is just a stone’s throw away from his recording studio, but despite its proximity to work, Blanco’s design brief was all-play, no-work. With the help of Rachel Leigh Ward and Dana M. Vitrano of bonVIVANT Interiors and designer Keefe Butler of Studio BAD, the resulting space is eclectic and playful with plenty of areas to kick back and relax with family and friends, including superstar girlfriend Selena Gomez. From a red velvet movie theatre with a candy room to a Mariah Carey-worthy dressing room, Blanco’s home is full of personality and fun for all. “I know the house is kooky…one time, a friend told me, ‘I love coming over to your house because I feel like I can just let go and be my true self.’ That’s exactly what I’m going for here.”

Today, AD is welcomed by Emma Roberts to tour her charming Los Angeles home. When The American Horror Story star and her son moved into their new home, she enlisted AD100’s Pierce & Ward to work their magic on the space. Rich florals and luxurious velvets pair with vintage furniture creating a cozy environment for Roberts to kick back and relax. Roberts was excited at the idea of making her very own grown-up dollhouse and with an extensive doll collection, her home has become just that. Ready for a new chapter in her new home, Roberts couldn’t be happier with how the space turned out. “I have a picture of the day we moved in,” Roberts says, smiling. “I’m holding him and it was the most sunny California day, and we were in front of the blue door of our new house. I just remember feeling like we are exactly where we need to be.”

Today, AD is welcomed by chef and YouTuber Joshua Weissman to tour his minimalist home in Austin, Texas. It’s often said the kitchen is the heart of the home, and with nearly 9 million subscribers following his gastronomical YouTube content, Weissman’s kitchen doesn’t disappoint. The YouTube star’s knives (his prized possessions) are proudly displayed along magnetized blocks, and Italian Carrara countertops add a luxurious feel. But more important than style is the function of his space. Though maybe not the most beautiful of stoves, Weissman cannot beat the performance of his Wolf. And then there’s Weissman’s cabinets, organized to perfection to save time and thought when he could be cooking up a storm. “The number one thing that’s important about a really great kitchen is not its size or how nice it is; it is about how you organize yourself and how you operate in that kitchen, so that you can actually enjoy the process of cooking,” he says. “Instead of having to think so much, I can think with my eyes.”

Today, AD is welcomed by Amber Valletta to tour her peaceful and sustainable home in Los Angeles. Alongside an illustrious modeling career, the supermodel is also a keen climate change activist, so when it came to designing her home, sustainability was key. Valletta enlisted friend and interior designer Ross Cassidy to help design a stylish yet eco-friendly space. Paint on the walls is replaced by natural clay plaster, and the exterior is clad in light stone that will last for years. Inside, Valletta upholstered the furniture she already owned with sustainable materials and went vintage or artisanal to fill in decor gaps. Full of natural, earthy tones and organic textures, Valletta created the peaceful and sustainable sanctuary she was looking for—"a place where, when you come in from the world, you can exhale.”

Today Architectural Digest is welcomed by Tan and Rob France to tour their new home in Salt Lake City. Wanting a forever home for their growing family, the Queer Eye star and his husband bought a plot of land and spent the next three years building their dream house from the ground up. With the help of The Fox Group, Tan and Rob built a grand Tudor-style home bringing together a blend of South Asian, English, and American interior touches. The design of their home was the project of a lifetime for the Next in Fashion host, and it was Tan’s own background as a stylist and designer that helped bring the couple’s dreams to life. “I treated this house like a collection,” France says. “If you’ve ever been to a runway show, it should tell a story. I wanted the top of the house to be like the opening look of a runway, and I wanted the final look to be shocking as the showstopper.”

Today, AD takes you inside Ryan Murphy’s beautiful Bel Air home. Designed in 1955 by Richard Neutra, the Brown House features what is believed to be the only double-wide living room designed by the legendary architect. Working with designer Trevor Cheney, the Feud creator wanted the interiors to create a sense of conflict and act as a reimagining of classic midcentury design. Decorative pieces from the past 500 years of mid-centuries contrast a predominantly contemporary art collection. Murphy’s home might be breaking several traditional design rules, but it’s also full of whimsy and intrigue, opening up a world of creative possibilities. “I have discovered that the only thing that truly interests me is a space in which things are in conflict. It’s the same in storytelling. A real design conversation starts to unfold when things that aren’t supposed to go together, for whatever outdated reasons, begin to suggest unexpected affinities and surprising similarities.”

Today Architectural Digest is welcomed by actress Maude Apatow to tour her first New York apartment. The Euphoria star has always dreamed of moving to New York and doing theater, so when a chance to star off-Broadway came knocking she knew it was time to start her East Coast life. As far as first NYC apartments go, Apatow lucked out with plenty of natural light in her cozy 1-bed–a rare commodity in the Big Apple. With the help of Soho Home, Apatow has created a soft, feminine vibe accentuated by pastel pinks, boucle textures, and no shortage of cat-themed art, making it the perfect haven to relax after a big show. “If a younger version of me saw this, she would be freaking out. It’s been my dream since I was like, five.”

Today Architectural Digest is welcomed by Sofía Vergara to tour her stunning home in Los Angeles. The Griselda star had quite a challenge on her hands when first acquiring her palatial Beverly Park mansion–according to her, it resembled a castle you might find in Transylvania. But with the expert help of interior designer, Ohara Davies-Gaetano, Vergara’s home was transformed into a Mediterranean paradise in the heart of California. Ornate European touches fill the space, from an 18th-century French limestone fireplace to baroque antiques placed beneath a 19th-century Italian chandelier. Vergara’s home truly does transport you to the luxurious rivieras of Europe and makes a perfect sanctuary to enjoy for years to come. “My friends from Colombia find any excuse to visit. There’s just something about this place that makes guests want to stay. It’s special. I still wake up every day thinking, I can’t believe this is my life.”

Today, Architectural Digest is welcomed by Bryce Dallas Howard to tour her charming cottage in New York. Growing up in Connecticut and falling in love with her husband at NYU, the East Coast is full of happy memories for the Argylle star, so it made perfect sense as a retreat from the LA working life. The couple had their hearts stolen by a quaint 18th-century replica cottage. Inspired by legends Jane Austen and Wes Anderson, Howard enlisted the help of designer and family friend Claire Thomas to brighten the previously dark interiors, injecting each room with vibrant colors and fabrics. But what makes the home truly special are the familial touches, from her grandmother’s extensive depression glassware collection to the piano she learned to play as a child. “In the end it became so much less about aesthetics and more about the place we spend our lives…It’s beautiful to be in a space where I’m able to dream about a future.”
