About me

Hi, I’m Maria Jesus.

The oldest of my three children says I am a «scientific veterinarian», I guess because I studied veterinary medicine and have been working in science for 20 years.

When I was a little girl I could spend hours watching ants put a crumb of bread into an anthill, and I was, and still am, very, very curious when something catches my eye.  I am passionate about animals, I like to observe them, understand them, think about what is behind the things they do, cure them, communicate with them…

During my professional career I have seen that science and society do not have a fluid communication. To speak «fast» in science, a language is used that is very rare for a large majority of people on the street, and scientists exchange that information in places unknown to the general public.

However, people are curious: they want to understand what happens in nature, what happens to their dog, what is done in a laboratory, how their body works, why there are diseases we cannot cure… and they are waiting for someone to tell them in a simple way.

And you know what happened: one day I realized that I love telling it. It fascinates me to observe what happens when I notice that someone clicks and suddenly understands or discovers new things. This is how Aprende con Danio was born. I want to do my bit to bring science and society a bit closer together.

So if you are one of those people who are eager to understand the world around you with the eyes of a scientist, you have come to the right place. Here you will find a lot of resources to introduce science into your life and your children’s lives.
