The Arizona Division of Developmental Disabilities (DDD) and AHCCCS now offer a new way to support families who need Habilitation Care Services and Attendant Care Services for their child.  If you are unable to find enough help from other providers, you can now be paid to provide those services yourself.

In 2020, AHCCCS and DDD Announced that parents can be paid as Temporary Direct Care Workers for their own children. The purpose of this option was to give parents (or guardians) another way to ensure that their child could continue to receive Habilitation or Attendant Care services without having outside providers come into the home during COVID.  Since parents can’t work another job while providing these services for their child, DDD allows Parents and Guardians to be paid for providing these services.  AHCCCS has announced that this option will be available until at least 2024.

Requirements

Must be 18 years old

Prior work experience is helpful, but not always necessary

Requires fingerprinting and a Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card

Requires a criminal background check

Direct Support Providers (DSP’s) positions require a motor vehicle department check, if transporting an individual.

For some positions, specific training and a certificate of completion may be required.

Community colleges and training institutes offer courses in care-giving that Direct Support Professionals (DSP’s) can attend.
